I truly madly deeply love dessert. I love making dessert, eating dessert and showing up to dinner parties with that treat that really caps off a soul-filling evening. Dessert is that extra 'ing that can turn a great moment into something truly memorable. Not always expected, definitely not required, dessert and treats,as I fondly call them, can and should be cherished for their pure joy. Not everything in life has to be for a reason or to solve a problem. Dessert can be just because and when you learn to appreciate the sometimes treats and stop demonizing them, they return back to their rightful place of childlike wonderment.
A journey to understand my ego and a desire to embrace love in all aspects of my life has brought up some thoughtful prose, many laughs, plenty of tears and a toolbox to continue showing up every. single. day.
Learning how to feed yourself real food, whole foods is the foundation for having a healthy body, healthy mind and ability to navigate the many food choices and occasions of life. Preservatives? No need. Added unnecessary sugars? Save them for dessert. Cheap oil that induces inflammation? Reach for a healthy omega-rich fat . Processed food? When in doubt, pass it up for knowing exactly what you are getting. Your clean is up to you, a process of trial and error to see what foods you really do love, the preparations that you keep coming back to and the ingredients that you digest the best. Not everyone can have the same Clean, the base of a vegetable rich diet with the nuances of what works well for you are clean eats. A balance of colorful vegetables, healthy fats, responsibly sourced animal or plant protein and whole carbohydrates. If you can figure out the balance that works for you- that new normal leaves so much space for life's sweet and savory treat moments.
